Dregonites
Dregonites (pronounced Dree-GONE-ites) are rock (/gem) based creatures that live in the Caves of Kentytii. There are seven species of Dregonites known: Zuvenxorx (Zoo-ven-ix-orx), Gekpshto (Gek-psht-oh), Getet (Get-et), Ronzengon (Ron-zen-gone), Stokken (St-ohck-ken), Velvurysk (Vel-vlur-isk), and Kriistyk (Kree-stick).
Young Dregonites. Gekpshto and Getet are not fully depicted.
All Dregonites start out small, about the size of a cat or kitten, and grow to be horse size or larger. Their life span is unknown, but it is estimated somewhere around fifty to a hundred years. They grow slowly, spending a lot of their life as youngsters. Youngsters are petrovors (they eat rocks) and are speculated to be one of the main reasons why there are so many tunnel systems under Kentytii. Two or three of them could easily carve out a small pocket cave, who knows what a whole herd of them could do.
Youngsters are virtually harmless to humans, with them only developing their aggression and craving from meat later on in their life. They are considered quite cute in the youngster stage with their huge innocent eyes, flashy gem parts, cute noises, and adorable ways of moving. They do not mind humans, as long as no one gets close. If you do get close, they will be sure to tell you that with growls, roars, and hissing that is more disarmingly cute than intimidating.
Dregonites, especially youngsters, have large eyes to aid them in the darkness of the caves. The gems around their eyes and legs (scientifically known as "flecks") are very reflective, allowing them to 'carry' around their own little flashlights. The downside is that they are easy to spot. They like to snack on Jigglosak, probably because the light emited from the beetles are too much for their eyes. Their toes start rounded and sit in front of their feet. In their adult form, their toes shift into positions and forms that most suit the Dregonite specie.
Adult Dregonites are oprotuntistic eaters. They are aggressive, even to their own kind. Before they reach adulthood, they find a mate. How they breed is unknown, but resurchers suspect it has to do something to do with the gem flecks on their legs as all mated adults have less than when they were youngsters. Depending on the species, the mated pair will stick around the egg(s) and each other until they are sure of its survival. Then both male and female will part, leaving the youngersters to fend for themselves. Dregonites seem to have no relationships with each other besides the acknowledgement of shared bloodlines.
Adult Dregonites are known to be territorial around their egg clusters or favorite feeding grounds. Some species will tolerate another of their kind lurking around if there is enough to share. Dregonites don't seem to care whether one Dregonite is a different species from it if that Dregonite is not intruding.
Dregonite Species
Zuvenxorx Dregonites are amphibious, inhabiting the deepest pools and / or the underwater tunnels near the sea. They hatch half in water and half out. Zuvenxorx prefer fish and things that live in the pools over things that live in the caves, though they will still nab anything that runs by. They like to like to find their prey rather than wait for it as most others do.Zuvenxorx are mellow in nature, though, if riled up, can be ferocious. They're fast, both on land and water, but still slower than larger, deep sea creatures. Zuvenxorx are one of the more curious of the Dregonites, prefuring to check out humans before attempting to eat one. Still, if you see a Zuvenxorx, or any adult Dregonite for that matter, back away. They will try to eat you.
Velvulrysk Dregonties are the most aggressive and tempermental of the Dregonites. They live near sulphurous pools or cracks that probably lead deep into the vulcanos underneath. It is said that Velvulrysk's orange plates are actually glowing hot with heat. No one knows if this is true, as no one has lived to tell the tale. If you see a Velvulrysk, sorry, it's already too late.
Velvulrysk are quick on their feet and surprisingly agile for their bulk. They have surated claws, making it easy for them to leave scratches in the stone. Velvulrysk live alone in the deepest part of the caves, only venturing out to mate, get food, or if they feel like going on a bloody rampage.
(forgive the missing k in the illustration) Stokken Dregonites are slow moving creatures, often choosing to sit in a corner and wait for some misfortune creature to stumble into its waiting open mouth. They are one of the Dregonites that have very little extra-hard plates along their body. Instead, they have very tough skin that is basically stone.
Stokkens don't like to eat humans and usually let them pass without ever alerting the human(s) to their lumpy presence. Where they lack in motivation and ajility, Stokkens make up with their intelligence. They are able to recognize prey that has escaped them before, which humans have passed though the most often, and their extended family.
Stokkens may be the most relationship sustaining of the Dregonites; staying with their chosen mate for roughly two to three years before ambling off again. Sometimes they will meet up again. Delibretly. Stokkens are known for recognizing their sired younglings, though they still don't do much to protect them.
Ronzengon Dregonites are heavily plated and most often seen around in the caves. They amble along, swinging their head and tail left from right near the ground as they sweep for prey. They don't seem to see humans as food, though they don't realize that before they try to take a bite. Ronzengons are responsible for most caveins, as they knock the walls with their heavy tails more often than not. They're basically impossible to kill or harm, so other measures are applied to keep the Ronzengons from leaving the caves. Most Kenverites are sure that if those measures were not taken, Ronzengons would dare to venture out of the caves.Ronzengons are seen as slow minded and often quite dence. They'll bite anything that looks, sounds, or feels anything like food, even if they already know it smells like a rock. They have little self preservation; often trundling into dangerous situations head first. But they are incredibly determand creatures, never giving up on a task they choose to complete — even if it's eating a chuck out of an inetable stone wall.
Getet Dregonites are the smallest of the Dregoites, and the most flashy. They entice prey to come near them by flanting their tail around. Just as an unsuspecting admirer comes near, the Getet snaps it up and bounces down the tunnels for their next victim. Getets are experts in playing innocent-pretty-Pet-Me-let's-be-friends facade, tricking even the most cautious being. They are notorious for feasting on sparkle-struck Kenverites who can't resist a shiny tail-ful of rubies.
Getets perade themselves around the caves, even trying to tempt other Dregonites to take a look at their shiny self. They even go so far as to take sparkle-struck Dregoniets from other species as mates. Hybrid offspring are not possible and all illigitament younglings die before they hatch.
Gekpshto Dregonites are very sticky. The 'fin' at the end of their tail is covered in a sticky fiml that, once slaped in place, will not come off unless the Dregonite throws its whole weight on its tail. Gekpshtos' toes are like gecko toes, allowing Gekpshtos to stick and stay on the cave celings. There they will stay until something etiable walks in. Then they will unstick from the ceiling and fall ontop of their prey, killing it or at least smothering it.
Gekpshto drop mouth first, so most prey don't even have time to register what happened before it's the end. If they miss, there's the rest of their body to escape from. After eating their fill, Gekpshto will climb back up and sit on the ceiling. It appears that if they miss the prey entirely, they don't attempt at catching it again and just climb back up. It is unlikely they will miss, however. This is why Keverites say to always look up before entering a new cave.
Kriistyk Dregnites are the pointest and the second deadliest Dregonite, berly surpassed by the Velvulorysks. Kriistyk from from crystals instead of rock, giving them the widest range of colors. Most are grey, purple underbelly, with blue crystals, but it is not unheard of to see a greyish blue, green underbelly, and yellow crystals or some other variation.
Kriistyk are also the most limber and longest of the Dregonites, giving them a speed and range that is impossible to go up against. They're aggressive, easily provoked, and known to try take a bite out of other Dregoinites. They strike fast and efficiently, spikes on their tail swinging to cut you off while their mouth speeds towards you. Kriistyk are dangerous but not seen often.
How to kill a Dregonite
You can't. No sword, knife, or spear can puncture their skin. Plus, most are too fast or aggressive to even try stab. It's rumoured that Noren Ore weapons can puncture their skin, but no one has been brave enough to find out. An attempted sab will end very badly, no matter how 'docile' the Dregonite seems.
