Sky Wolves

I invented a new world again. Welp! It's not very developed but here's what I have. The world and story are set in a sci-fi setting. On this new planet, there is life, intelligent life. In this period of time, humans have explored their solar system and haven't found any intelligent life until they came to this planet. They have set up a research base on one of the lush continents with the intention of learning everything they can about the flora and fauna, how they work, what the ecosystem is, etc., so they can integrate themselves in with the least amount of damage. They are not going to mess this world up like they have Earth. They're going to do better. And that's why there's only a small base located on the coast.

That's the humans; now it's time for the intelligent life. The intelligent life is wolves. There are three main categories of wolves (which probably call themselves by a different name): Sky wolves, Rock wolves, and Tide wolves. Each kind lives and is most adapted to live in the places they are named after. Rock wolves live on the land (lower parts), Sky Wolves in the skies (live in the higher parts of the land), and Tide wolves live in the sea, lakes, and some rivers.

Each kind is most adapted to live in their respective places; so adapt, in fact, that some are born with or develop abilities related to Sky, Rock, or Tide. These kinds of wolves were called Speakers (I will most likely change this). The abilities are never strong; only one Tide wolf could ever change the tides or hold them back. They could never stop the tides, empty a lake, things like that. A Rock wolf couldn't move a mountain or open up a huge sinkhole (only one wolf got close). And a Sky wolf could never blot out the sun, destroy the moon, change gravity, send huge gales of wind, control storms, etc (only one wolf could sway the minds of the winds, and only slightly).

In each category of wolves, there are separate tribes. For example, in Tide wolves, there are deep-sea wolves, wolves who live in the shallows, wolves who live in the lakes, and many other kinds. Blow this are the types of Sky wolves I have designed. These are not all of them. Please note that these might change because they are the first 'draft.' The names will change, too.

Sky wolf type: Sun
Sun wolves hardly ever land at day time, but when they do, they bring waves of warmth. This is because their huge wings (they are a little small in the picture) gather so much heat from the sun so they radiate it off. They are able to sleep in the sky, though they prefer mountain peeks.

Sky wolf type: Hummingbird

These cute little wolves flit around the forests and meadows, catching small birds, frogs, squirrels to eat with a side dish of nectar or honey. They are smaller than most Sky wolves with a high metabolism rate so they are constantly eating. They are bigger than dragonfly Sky wolves and some Beetle Sky wolves. Hummingbird Sky wolves are not all yellow; they come in any color under the sun besides black (but they can have black patches; there just isn't an all-black one).

Sky wolf type: Dragonfly
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I spelled dragonfly with a "G." Oops. Anyway, Dragonfly Sky wolves are the smallest of all of the Sky wolves. They never grow out of their huge ears and large paws. This is an adult wolf. The puppies are much smaller.

Sky wolf type: Floaty
Floaty wolves don't fly the normal way. Their wings are made out of thick silk that 'traps' the air inside so the wolves fall veeeeery slowly.

Sky wolf type: Beetle
Beetle wolves fly close to the land and for short periods of time. They fold their wings backwards with the elytra folding over them.
