A Timbit of Writing

No art this week (been too busy with the doggo and commissions!), but I do have some recent-ish writing! I've been slowly working on editing some of my short stories to put into an anthology. I'm almost done now (finally. I've been wanting to finish it for so long now XD)! Here's one of my favorite parts of a short story I've edited so far:

Later, when the rebel has been taken away and I am once more left to the silence of my room, I stand again in front of my window, watching death drifting down like snow. Our lives may have endings too soon—our souls may have an early place among the stars—but lives can be snatched away too quickly. Souls can be stolen. Like that little girl so full of light and life that she reminded me how to live again.

I flex my fingers and grip the hilt of my sword, heat and fire burning in my chest at the thought of her—of the sight of her soul stolen away too soon. I do not care for the rebellion's cause or whether they succeed or not. I do not care that what I am about to do is the highest treason and the worthy of a slow, painful death. I do not care what happens to me after I act. All I care about is that I, Shafron of the Yellow Sector, a girl in disguise and a leader of men, get revenge on the Kenverites responsible for my woes.

Drawing my sword, I spin for the door, the heat in my chest consolidating into a raging fire. My soul longs for the stars. But I long for vengeance more.
